The use of Social Media is crucial to a successful business. As a second generation dealer, my parents do not use the internet for promotion and simply are out of touch with the modern consumer. Internet buying is just as important as face to face shows and exhibitions. If not, more important because there is an actual fingerprint left that can recruit more buyers from different areas to your site and generate more income.

I was thinking of this very subject yesterday. I was working up a blog post in my head about a show we went out to and the great piece I found there and I thought to myself, I don't know many dealers who will ever tell where they bought anything! What are we afraid of? Who is going to find out and what is going to happen? I've been over sharing for many years now and meet plenty of people who now say, hey i've read your blog, love what you found last week etc. We all hunt and gather. Buying from shows and talking about shows helps promote the whole biz and whether we tell or not we all know it's what we do. Why can't I talk about it? I think it's good business from the side of a dealer AND a promoter.

as a dealer who managed to do ok at this show, there was more drama than even i was aware of. i do not want to be a promoter. several of the dealers around me were very understanding. others complained to everyone who would listen all weekend long. i think you did an amazing job. thank you.

OMG as one show promoter to another, and having lived through similar, harrowing and heartbreaking torments from Mother Nature, I congratulate Jon for his clear thinking and level headed management of this gut wrenching situation. And kudos to the intelligence and maturity on the part of the dealers for sticking it out cheerfully and looking ahead. Here is a group that deserves a big success and should benefit from loyalty and sense of shared experience. It's times such as these that bring out the best, and worst, in people. Fortunately here, it appears the best in everyone emerged! Keep it up.

Antique/Vintage items have character/soul that are hardly ever replicated
, now while many can be satiated by soulless, hollow duplications, those with a keen sense of presence, a discerning demand for that which is real will continue to buy Antique/Vintage. And those who do not care about spirit,the visual history of life that is openly displayed in items that are old, will buy whatever.
